Question by Terrorize My Heart, Crazy Men: I saw a picture of a Sex Offender, what could be wrong with me?

Firstly, I know this question will make me sound deranged and wrong, but just please answer if you will give me serious input.
I saw in the local newspaper the pictures of the recent arrests. One of them was a sex offender, with a 35,000 dollar bail, and for some reason, I was captivated by him. I even cut out the picture. I'm wondering what the hell is wrong with me. I've even contemplated maybe going down to the jail and seeing if they would let me talk to him, meet him, or if they'd tell me about his case, other than just he was convicted of a sex crime. For some reason, I can't get him out of my mind. Whenever I do have to drive past the jail, I feel kinda sad and even found myself saying out loud "poor baby". I feel so wrong about this, and know the best thing to do is toss the picture and forget about him, but it's hard for me to. (And just so you know, he doesn't look rough or freaky, he looks exactly like T.R. Knight (George) from Grey's Anatomy). Anyway, I'm thinking what it is is that I am incredibly picky when it comes to the guys I'm interested in, and they have to have a certain look to them. It isn't everyday I see someone who I'd be interested in, and since this guy has that look, I'm thinking it's just me holding onto the idea of someone in my area having that very specific look I go for. Does that make sense? I'm just trying to figure out what it is that is making me so drawn to this person and why I'm finding it hard to let go. What is a person to do?
And also, I really am a genuinely good person and am not insane in the least, I'm just having a really weird moment here and am wondering what others think of this scenario.

I suppose the physical attraction could be a part of it, but I'd be willing to bet there are other factors at work. You might be having issues with attainability...you protect yourself from failure by developing a fixation on somebody who is obviously not attainable. Or you might have some complex about wanting to 'save' somebody or even prove their innocence.

Regardless, you need to figure out just what the lure is for somebody you've just met. There are people who develop serious fixations on criminals and become involved in relationships with them. These people often have the issues I mentioned.

If the fixation becomes too strong seek help or council.
